Sumitai Machi / 棲ミタイ街, Chapter 1 Manga Review

~ warning ~ This is a horror manga! Some of the images featured in it (and both images that I chose for the gallery) may make you uncomfortable if you dislike graphic imagery.

You can check out this series for yourself below!

What’s this manga about?

One day at a mall, a horrific scene was discovered by a family. As their son ran towards his favourite life-size model of Thomas the Train, the parent quickly noticed something wasn’t quite right: Thomas had a real human face stuck to his.

The police and a specialist are called, and they quickly go into action to discover exactly what they’re looking at. While this case already seems to be incredibly strange, the specialist notes that they believe the victim whose face now belongs to Thomas is still alive.

Like clockwork, as soon as she makes this declaration, a mysterious man is discovered with his eyes and mouth stitched closed. He unfortunately falls to his demise before she can get to him properly, losing a valuable asset to catching the person who committed this crime.

At home a little while later, our specialist is having a calm evening with her son, when the scene pans away, showing someone watching her family through what seems to be spy cameras. This someone, enjoying stitching up a stuffed animal, tells themselves that it’s time to get back to work as they watch the specialist’s family.

What I Like About This Manga

💜 I like the art! I’m a big horror fan, and I do really like how the author choose to draw the more graphic bits.

💙 The introduction of who I assume is going to be the main character – I love a horror story with a female main lead!!

💚 The mystery – I love all of the questions about the culprit this volume left me with. Like… how exactly did they take of the victims face without killing him…

💛 I tend to enjoy police dramas ( like Brutal!! ) so I am excited to continue reading this series. I hope that we get to see more of all three introduced officers as the story goes on, but I won’t be mad if it instead just focuses on our specialist.
