Buying New Manga – Hunting Down Shoujo Gems

Is there anything better than the feeling that comes with finding something new that you want to buy? I dare say that the thrill of searching and finding something that you like so much that you just need to buy it is even better than reading a good book sometimes.

There’s just something so appealing about looking at a bookshelf full of yet-to-be-read books that you know you’re going to enjoy…

Because I’ve begun working my summer job, I have found myself with a little bit of extra spending money! I made two big Surugaya purchases, but I also did some shopping on Amazon as well! While I don’t typically shop on Amazon (my main reason is because the shipping is just typically out of my price range), I couldn’t help myself when I saw all of the upcoming releases.

One of my shipments just arrived the other day, so I wanted to talk a little bit about what I picked up!

The manga

When I get around to reading these books, I will be making my typical in-depth reviews for each of them. For today, I just want to share some of the reasons that I chose to pick up these specific books.

Pizzicato Sleeping Forest / ピチカートの眠る森, Volume 5

I’m a little bit embarrassed to say that I bought all 5 volumes of this now-completed series, and I haven’t even opened volume 1 yet. I can justify this with the fact that this was written by Alto Yukimura, the author of my all-time favourite shoujo series, Colette Decides to Die! So, I don’t need to read a sample to see whether or not I would like this. I love absolutely everything Yukimura puts out. And now that I have the full series, I can read this slowly, without the fear of having to wait to find the final few volumes mid-read.

The Failure at God School / 神さま学校の落ちこぼれ, Volume 2

If you enjoyed Kamisama Kiss, You need to check this series out. I fell in love with volume 1 as soon as I finished the first chapter, and knew that I would be collecting the whole series.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t just me that instantly fell in love with this series, as I was ultimately never able to find volume 2 at the second hand store that I like to shop at. I waited and waited and searched and searched… So when I finally found myself with the money to make a special Amazon purchase, I added this to my cart right away.

Kingyoya-san no Karisome Fuufu / 金魚屋さんのかりそめ夫婦

I actually missed the chance to preorder this one, but it was luckily still in stock by the time I added it to my cart. I’ve been really enjoying this series, and so I’m very happy to be able to continue reading it so soon after its release!

I don’t have much of a special story about this specific series – I’m enjoying it, so I’m excited to continue reading!

Horegusuri Event ga Watashi ni Okiteshimaimashita / 惚れ薬イベントが私に起きてしまいました

This is one of the spicier series in my collection! This volume initially caught my eye because both the premise, and the two main characters resemble those of one of my favourite novels: Hello, I’m a Witch Whose Crush Requested a Love Potion! There is also a manga adaptation, if you’re intereseted!

While that is what originally caught my eye, I do think that this story is unique enough to stand on its own, outside the shadow of Hello, I’m a Witch.

And those are the four newest manga that I have received! I am so excited to start reading and reviewing them!
