First Impressions and thoughts

I’m not going to lie, I really did not think that I was going to like this story. I read a sample of it through Amazon, and neither the art nor the story really gripped me. However, it was recommended to me by so many people that I ended up taking a chance and making the purchase.

Throughout the whole volume, I kept flip flopping between enjoying and not enjoying this story. I found many faults in the FL, to the point that I was considering dropping it at times. She did slowly start to grow on me though, and by the end of the volume I was glad that I pushed through the parts that I didn’t like. Overall, I think it was a good volume!

What’s it about?

“Kuroko” is the nickname of our main character, who really loves helping others. She explains that she really only feels like she has a place when she’s being useful, and so she signs herself up for just about every committee that she can at school. On top on this, she also volunteers to help out other committees that she’s not an official member of.

While she genuinely feel fulfilled when watching her classmates have a good time thanks to her hard work, just about everyone in these committees takes advantage of her good will.

We are then introduced to our soon-to-be male lead of this manga, Shishima. He is known as something of a villain in their school, infamously forcing some third years students to bow to him soon after he transferred in. We later learn that he caused such a scene because these upperclassmen were harassing someone who wouldn’t stand up for themselves, and Shishima took it upon himself to do something about it.

After Shishima and Kuroko meet, Shishima is very quick to catch onto the fact that everyone is taking advantage of Kuroko. Her spirit catches his attention, and he decides to do all that he can to support her, and he vows to take her out of the shadows, and to make her the main character in her life.

And he does! Thanks to Shishima’s secretly kind actions, Kuriko does get out of her shell a little bit and tries out some new things.

My Favourites

  • Shishima’s morals – he likes to “fight evil with evil”, so he acts like a crazy villain whenever he sees someone treating others poorly.
  • Kuroko and Shishima’s relationship – I do think they have very good rapport, and I like them together!

My Least-Favourites

  • Kuroko – She’s so naive it’s a little bit annoying. It’s so clear that she’s being taken advantage of, but she thinks the absolute best of everyone at all times it seems.
