There’s just something magical about a boy who acts mean on the outside, but is actually kind on the inside, right? Even better if he’s only mean to you,,, right? That’s what our protagonist Uta thinks at least.

First Impressions and thoughts
The very first thing that drew me to this series was the art – I’m a big fan of this mangaka’s art style! The second thing that drew me in was the title. In English, it could be translated as something like “his scornful look is the best”. I thought it was such an out there title that I knew I just needed to give it a try.
I’m always on the lookout for something new, and this is certainly different from every other manga in my collection! Our FL is only attracted to boys who look at her like she’s annoying. While I did find her to be a little bit annoying at times, overall I did really enjoy her as a main character. She’s very funny, and she does slowly grow to understand her own feelings throughout this volume.
What’s it about?
Uta is a girl who has rather peculiar taste in men: she really likes those who look at her with a scornful look in their eyes. Like, those that would call her annoying to her face, or that have an overall bad personality. One day, when she is getting confessed to, she decides that the confession was much too kind and turned him down instantly.
An upperclassman heard the confession go down, and warned the boy to give up on her as she sounds annoying, and from there she was smitten. Not with the boy who confessed to her, but with the upperclassman who called her annoying in passing, Narumi.
While she does confess her feelings to him several times, he keeps insisting that she doesn’t actually know what it means to like someone. As her interests are rather twisted, he hopes that she can first figure herself out before pushing her feelings on someone else.
Not to be dissuaded, she ends up following him around until he feels the need to let her hang out with him for her own safety.
While they don’t end up dating, Uta does slowly come to terms that she does actually like Narumi as a person, not just because she likes that he calls her out for being annoying. She is also somewhat able to convey this to Narumi, who ultimately agrees to becoming friends with her by the end of the volume.

My Favourites
- How weird Uta is – is it strange that I find her oddly lovable?
- How respectul Narumi is – he could easily take advantage of Uta, but doesn’t.
My Least-Favourites
- How shallow of a character Uta is – I do hope she will be more fleshed out in the next volume.
- How little we know about Narumi – I hope we’re shown more of his kind side next volume as well!
