Impressions and thoughts
Volume 3 introduced a new obstacle that could have been the cause of a great deal of drama, and while it technically was, it also allowed for a lot of character growth. By “new obstacle”, i’m talking about Ichikura’s former classmate, a current yankee, transfer into his and Momose’s class.
While Ichikura was doing a rather good job of hiding his yankee tendencies from his classmates until now, having a current yankee as a classmate brings in all sorts of new difficulties. This made the volume feel very fresh and entertaining, as we were shown Ichikura dealing with something he really hasn’t dealt with yet.
What happens?
This volume opens up with Momose and Ichikura helping out at a festival! As the two are members of the Helping Others Club, they do various odd jobs until they are able to have fun at the festival by themselves.

The next day at school, they’re introduced to a new transfer student: Igarashi, the boy who kidnapped Momose in the previous volume.
As a current-yankee, his looks and way of speaking make him stick out naturally. When Ichikura is near him, he tends to slip up with his way of speaking, so he’s naturally rather troubled. Not just with this though, Igarashi seems to have an interest in Momose.

In order to help protect Ichikura’s secret, Momose is doing her best to help Igarashi get comfortable and make friends. Ichikura sees this, and gets a bit jealous – he sees her having an unnecessary amount of interest in Igarashi as worrisome.
Igarashi is also not as scary as once thought, he just looks scary. But just when Momose began making some progress with integrating him, she has a small fight with Ichikura. This prompts her to stay away from Igarashi.
A little later on, their class is participating in a relay race, where students pick up a random note, and must find whatever is written on the note and make their way to the goal. On Momose’s card it says “the person I like”, and so naturally, she runs over and grabs Ichikura. This puts a rather abrupt end to their fight, as she basically announces to their entire school that she likes him with this act.

After Momose’s race, it’s time for Ichikura and Igarashi’s! The two of them end up bonding together as they find a common enemy to beat. The comradery is short-lived though, as at the very end of the volume they are back to arguing. What’s worse, mid-argument, Momose accidentally steps on a microphones “on” switch, broadcasting the fight to the whole school…
My Favourites
- Ichikura saving a boy at the festival – he looked very cool with the fox mask on!
- Momose realizing Igarashi isn’t actually a bad person – he’s just misunderstood and awkward!
- Ichikura and Igarashi coming together to defeat a common enemy – nothing brings people together like a competition.
My Least-Favourites
- Nothing!
