Tokoton Kuzuna Watarase Nanoni /とことんクズな渡良瀬なのに Volume 1 : Manga Review and Thoughts

I FINALLY got my hands on volume 1! I knew that I wanted to add this to my collection as soon as I read chapter 1 part 1, but I had to wait for the volume to come out first… And then when I was finally able to order it… DHL went on strike. And lost my package.

All ended well, and my package ended up safe in my hands, but oh my goodness that was a stressful experience!

The author’s name is Nakagawa Pari, you can find their X here!

How many volumes are out? Where can I read it?

In Japanese, There is currently 1 published volume! You can check it out here!

There is no English publication yet.

What genre? What are the vibes?

  • University-aged romance
  • Experienced older guy x inexperienced younger girl
  • “is he serious about me, or is he just playing around?”

First Impressions and thoughts

If you’re still trying to decide if you want to read this manga, you do. Trust me. Every chapter of this volume was better than the last, leaving me absolutely unable to wait for the next volume (coming out in October!).

I really enjoyed all of the characters introduced in this volume, and Watarase is a surprisingly complex character! While he is portrayed as a scummy playboy, he has quite a few moments of actual genuine nice-ness, that left me questioning whether he’s just pretending to be scummy for his comedy persona.

This volume had very good pacing as well! I was never left feeling bored, and I also never felt like their relationship was moving too quickly.

What’s it about?

Nonoka, wanting to have an actual romance, moves from her small town in northern Hokkaido to Tokyo. This would have been impossible if it had not been for her ulta-famous comedian brother who moved to Tokyo a while back. Thanks to him, she’ll have a place to live while she works and goes to university in the city.

But… When she gets to his place, not her brother, but a beautiful, shirtless man opens the door. It turns out that her brother does not live alone, but with his comedy partner, Watarase. Watarase, being a known womanizer, immediately tries to make a move on Nonoka. And while her brother puts a stop to it, it’s clear that he’s interested in her.

Nonoka ends up taking a part time job at her brothers workplace, where she ends up seeing exactly why her brother and Watarase are as popular as they are. In watching Watarase’s performance in particular, she feels the “heart-thumping” feeling that she was looking for when she first decided to move to Tokyo but… that couldn’t be love, could it?

My Favourites

  • Their playful relationship – Watching Nonoka try to deal with all of Watarase’s antics was incredibly entertaining
  • Watarase’s work ethic – While he’s portrayed as a silly, care-free character, he becomes very serious when it comes to his job!

My Least-Favourites

  • Nothing yet!
