First Impressions and thoughts

The first thing that drew me to this series was the unique art style! I think it really works perfectly for the snake character, as it allows him to be drawn in both a spooky and cute manner, depending on the scene.

I enjoyed this story a great deal, and while there was a little bit of repetition, it by no means impacted my being able to enjoy the story.

While the story is more-so focused on the cute relationship between our main soon-to-be couple, I did enjoy that there was also a good amount of plot happening in the background! While I would say that this is first and foremost a romance manga, it cannot be denied that there is a good amount of plot that has nothing to do with romance.

I was constantly enthralled in the story, as every time I was fed new information about the shape-shifters, I was able to see the characters in a whole new light.

What’s it about?

Hebigami is a boy who is the descendent of a snake god. Because of this, whenever he gets cold, he transforms into a snake. This isn’t permanent though, as once he’s been adequately warmed up, he returns to his human form.

His classmate, Haruna, has taken it upon herself to be his designated wamer-uper, and she always has a supply of things such as hand warmers and an extra warm scarf on supply.

Things weren’t always like this though, as when Hebigami first transferred to Haruna’s school, just about everyone was terrified of him. I mean – he quite literally can transform into a giant snake.

His snake form can vary from terrifying to incredibly cute, just depending on his circumstances. Man harassing Hauna on the train? Scary monster. Got a little bit chilly on his walk to school? Little baby.

While he at first had no real intentions of interacting with those around him at school, he quickly warmed up to his seat neighbour, Haruna. She was the only one who didn’t seem afraid of him whatsoever. On the contrary, she has decided to take it upon herself to help him make even more friends so that he can get accustomed to being around other humans quickly.

My Favourites

  • The art! I really do love this artstyle, it just feels so unique!
  • The overall premise! I haven’t read a shapeshifting story that I was able to enjoy this much since Fruits Basket

My Least-Favourites

  • Nothing yet!

Quick Story Checks!

Is the plot compelling and coherent?

Yes! I really enjoyed the plot that was more-so happening in the background. I am very interested in learning more about Hebigami’s family, and whether there are other shapeshifters at their school.

Are the protagonists well-developed and relatable?

Yes! I feel like both characters were given their chance to shine in this volume.

Are the side characters interesting and well-used?

While there weren’t really all that many side characters introduced, I did really enjoy the bear’s introduction! I hope we get to see more of him from here on out.
