A Quick Recap

Amamiya is rather disillusioned with life. He’s come to realize that by just being kind and agreeable, he gets the attention and admiration of those around him. On top of his agreeable nature, he has rather infamously good looks. So much so, that there is a rumour that he is a prince being widely spread by his upperclassmen.

Up until now he has been able to evade invitations to things such as karaoke nights, and mixers, but his friends are starting to question him. After all, he doesn’t have a girlfriend. And the majority of girls won’t attend unless he does.

On the other side we have Chika. Her friends have been prompting her to find a boyfriend now that she’s in university, however she doesn’t want to date just anyone. One day, when her upperclassman is attempting to strongarm her into dating him, Amamiya comes in to help break up the fight.

Once the two of them are alone, they begin sharing their woes with each other when Amamiya makes a bold request: why don’t they pretend to date each other so that those around them will finally leave them alone? The one rule of the pretend relationship – that they don’t actually develop feelings.

My Thoughts on the Manga

While I do enjoy the pretend relationship trope, this felt like a rather stale take on it. By the end of the first chapter it was rather clear that they both had feelings for each other, and I could clearly guess where the rest of the volume was going.

While being predictable isn’t in inherently bad thing, I didn’t really find myself enjoying either character. The reason they started fake dating was so that others would leave them alone, but they were incredibly troubled when they were caught practicing being in a relationship. I found it difficult to understand the motives behind both characters.

I think I will continue reading volume 1 before deciding if I will be dropping this or not.
