Reincarnated in a Mafia Dating Sim / 悪党一家の愛娘、転生先も乙女ゲームの極道令嬢でした (1) : Manga Review and Thoughts

I first downloaded this manga about a half year ago, and it just sat unread in my Kindle library for months and months… When TOKYOPOP announced they were publishing the English version, I looked it up and thought that it looked familiar… I’m now kicking myself for waiting so long, as I really did enjoy this series!

If you are feeling a little bit burnt out by the sheer amount of reincarnation stories out there right now, this one may not be for you. If that’s the case, why not try reading my review of The Summer Hikaru Died? The anime comes out in just a month, after all!

  • Toxic romance
  • Fantasy
  • Capable FL, crazy ML

First Impressions

At first, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the art in this series, however it did quickly grow on me! I really am a fan of yakuza romance stories, and so of course I would enjoy a mafia romance!

While I wasn’t exactly sure how I felt about the relationship between the two leads, I did slowly grow to enjoy it more and more as I read on. There is a good amount of world building that takes place throughout the entire volume, so we get quite a bit of relevant lore! The more we learn about the story, the more enjoyable the character relationships became, and I found myself wanting to learn more and more.

What’s it about?

Once the beloved granddaughter of a yakuza family, Francesca found herself sadly unable to form any real relationships with those living “normal” lives. While she did really love her extended yakuza-family, she always found herself feeling rather lonely. So, she promised herself that were she to start a new life, she would live a normal life, as a normal person.

After being killed in cold blood on Christmas, Francesca wakes up in the body of the main character of the Otome game that she had been playing. This character, the beloved daughter of a mafia family, is her worst nightmare, as she is destined to have an even lonelier life than her previous one.

As she is engaged to a cunning, vicious man who will eventually cause her death, Francesca uses all of her knowledge from her past life to safely navigate her way to safety.

But… when this man sees just how capable Francesca is, he isn’t all that keen on letting her go.

My Favourites

  • The capable female lead! I love just how self-sufficient she is, it makes me want to root for her!
  • The psychopath ML – I love a good crazy ML
  • The lore – I found this to be a very well crafted story, the world system feels complete.

My Least-Favourites

  • While I did have a few complaints at first, the story grew on me so quickly that I don’t think those complaints were justified in the end.

Quick Story Checks!

Is the plot compelling and coherent?

Yes!! I am so invested in finding out where the story will go from here, I really am excited to continue reading on. I never found myself questing what’s happening, even though there was quite a bit of information thrown at us throughout the volume.

Everything was well explained!

Are the protagonists well-developed and relatable?

I really love the female leads that this artist creates! Francesca, although not wanting to be involved with the mafia world, can’t help but use her power and knowledge to help those around her. I really enjoyed learning about her, as she’s depicted as a kind, capable person. I really dislike it when female characters have to be dependent on male leads, so this was a nice change of pace.

I also found our male lead to be a very interesting, and slightly mysterious, character. As he’s motivated by revenge he’s a little bit hot-headed, but I liked to see that he changed his plans once he realized how interesting a person Francesca is.

Are the side characters interesting and well-used?

There were quite a few side characters in this volume, and I liked all of them! I think my absolute favourite side characters were all of the yakuza members / employees from Francesca’s past life. I did also really like her past grandfather, and her current father, however the family members were just so cute to me, I couldn’t not put them first.

Final Thoughts

I’m so happy that this series is getting an English publication, it certainly deserves one!
