Snow Pink / スノウピンク – Mini Manga Review

This is a mini review / first impressions of a Palcy one-shot, “Snow Pink”. This story was written by Suzuta Fuyuka.

This one-shot is completely free to read on Comic Days, and you can find it here!

A Quick Recap

Two childhood friends are just that – but is there maybe something more to their relationship? We are introduced to our two main characters in the middle of winter as they are playing in the snow with their classmates. We quickly learn that our female lead, Hasaki, has feelings for her childhood friend, but does he feel the same way about her?

Tomorrow just so happens to be Valentines day, and it may just be the perfect day to confess, Hasaki decides. She prepares a great deal of chocolates, some obligatory for friends, and one romantic, for more-than-friends. As she’s handing out her obligatory chocolates throughout the day, she notices that her childhood friend has accumulated quite a stack of chocolates.

When she tries to offer him one though, he says he doesn’t need it. But, does he understand that she’s trying to give him a “more-than-friends” chocolate? In the moment, no! He doesn’t!

It takes some time, and eventually the two are able to clear the misunderstanding, with both confessing to the other at the same time.

My Thoughts on the Manga

I love a good winter romance!! Although this manga was incredibly short, I think it’s very well-written! I wasn’t left questioning anything, and I was rather satisfied with how the story ended.

I liked how we were dropped right in the middle of the story, and were trusted to be able to understand character dynamics by the context clues. Nothing was spelt out, and I found myself able to fully immerse in the story rather easily thanks to that.

While I do find Valentine’s Day subplots in romance media to typically be uninteresting, I was able to enjoy this! The story didn’t over-rely on the holiday, rather it used it to further push the plot along.
