Hidden Gems and Reunions and Secret Yankee, Oh My! – 4 Manga on my Radar

Before I make the plunge and add a new manga to my bookshelf, I like to first download a free sample off of Amazon. Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I have a lot of manga samples downloaded to my kindle.

So, I thought it would be fun to start a new series where I introduce the manga that have caught my eye, and whether reading the samples have convinced me to buy the manga or not!

TL;DR some looked better than others, but overall 3 yeses 1 maybe.

Nemureru Kemono wa Ai wo Sakebu

This is a romance high school manga, about a yankee boy and his slightly obsessive love for his classmate. He hides his true yankee nature while in class, and is known by his classmates as an honours student.

I think this manga has a lot of potential! While I’m not crazy about the art, I think the premise can be fun if it’s done correctly. I like how the ML is clearly a complex character, but my enjoying the series will depend heavily on how the FL deals with him.

Verdict: I would buy the digital!

Kurasu no Inkya ni Kareshi no Saianou ga Arisugiru

This manga didn’t hit the way I thought it would. I don’t love the art, and I really don’t love the FL. I thought it would be funny/cute, with the FL discovering that her male classmate was actually a really nice person.. I envisioned them becoming friends, and him surprising her with his looks and secret charm…

What I got instead was a FL who forcibly made her classmate go on a fate with her when she realised he looks good without his glasses on. The catalyst of their relationship? She was angry that she lost her boyfriend, so she decided to try and get a new one.

I understand that this type of story isn’t meant to be taken seriously, but I still just couldn’t really get into it.

Verdict: I may buy the digital if I can find it on sale, but I wouldn’t look too hard for it.

Kimi wo Hitori ni Shiteagenai

I think that I would like this manga, but I don’t see it being one of my all-time favourites. I like that the FL feels like a real person, with real problems. She’s just trying to help those around her, but her peers see her as someone difficult to approach, so she’s often alone.

The ML suddenly appears, and he’s the first person we see unafraid to interact with her.

While I don’t think this is the most unique story ever, I do think I’ll enjoy how the author tells the story.

Verdict: I would like the physical, but I’d settle for the digital.

Kurogane-kun to Saikyou no Koi

I really loved this sample!! I think it’s going to be a very fun story (I know it’s already becoming a pretty popular series, but it’s new to me!). I found the ML to be very charming in his own socially awkward kind of way.

While this is a high school romance manga, I do think this is a fresh enough story that there is something to enjoy here. The ML is a martial arts student who “hires” the FL to help him better understand how to deal with people.

Verdict: I would buy the physical!
