Before I make the plunge and add a new manga to my bookshelf, I like to first download a free sample off of Amazon. Because I’ve been doing this for so long, I have a lot of manga samples downloaded to my kindle.
So, I thought it would be fun to start a new series where I introduce the manga that have caught my eye, and whether reading the samples have convinced me to buy the manga or not!
TL;DR all four manga introduced look interesting enough to buy
Witch Watch

I’m not quite sure why, but for a long time I was against reading this manga. I guess I never properly looked into the story, because it’s so cute!
While they’re completely different stories, this kind of gave me “Yamada and the Seven Witches” vibes in the best way possible. The setup was very entertaining, and it left me really wanting to read on. Even though the sample was a whole 60 pages, it felt very short (again, in a good way).
Verdict: worth waiting to get the physical.
Raou-kun wa Watashi ni Kamau

This is a typical high school yankee romance manga, but the way he treats the FL is so cute! While the sample was incredibly short, I do enjoy the premise.
I also find the art to be very charming: it’s messy in a put together way. While a lot of the current shoujo manga follows the same clean (beautiful) type of art, this manga’s art feels like a breath of fresh air.
Verdict: worth buying the physical if possible, but I would settle for a digital copy.
Hebigami-kun wa Samui to Henshin Shichau kara

The art in this manga is SO cute! Hebigami is adorable in his snake form, and the story feels like it’s going to be just as cute.
In all honesty, the art in the first few pages before the story is introduced had already convinced me to read this manga, but the introduction of the characters just further pushed me. I think it does a good job of introducing both the characters and the premise of the story, but it feels like it’s going to be a rather short one.
Verdict: worth buying the physical.
Stalker ga Stalker Sareteru Hanashi

It seems like I’m really enjoying dark BL’s lately? While I’m typically not a fan of most BL ( not saying there’s anything wrong with the genre, just I tend to have a hard time finding manga in the genre that I enjoy ), I’ve been enjoying the darker stories. I liked Killing Stalking for the shock factor, I liked Kireina Kimi ni Korosaretai for the uniqueness, and I’m fairly certain that I’ll enjoy this for the plot.
It’s a story of a stalker getting outwitted and stalked himself, and it feels like it’s going to be incredibly dramatic. I can tell this is going to be a very dramatic story, and I’m praying that there is nothing explicit shown…
Verdict: I would buy the digital as I’m apprehensive about the genre.
