English title: Sakura Likes me Too Much. There is currently no official translation out.

A quick recap

We are thrown into the thick of it right at the start of chapter one. Upon hearing that his classmate has recently broken up with her now ex-boyfriend, Sakura, our male lead, confesses his love to her.

While our female lead, Sawa, turns him down citing that he’s not her type as a dealbreaker, Sakura rejects her rejection. He claims that people can change, and that “types aren’t absolute”. So, he’ll just work really hard until he becomes someone that she can see herself dating.

From there, we see Sakura being what I can only describe as aggressively kind to Sawa. He even ends up princess-carrying her out of gym class when she feels faint!

Even though he is, in my opinion, crossing the boundaries that Sawa set when she turned down his confession, Sawa actually seems to be moved by all of this kindness. In the infirmary, Sakura explains that he does have a legitimate reason for his strong feelings: a long time ago, Sawa helped Sakura pick up some documents, and he fell in love hard and fast.

This explanation seems to be all that Sawa needed, as she seems to start coming around to the idea of dating, and even gives him a handmade gift.

By the end of the volume, Sakura will have admitted to trying out a wide assortment of tactics to get Sawa to grow to like him, but the one that actually worked was his explaining why he liked her in the first place.

Almost like…women don’t want games but instead legitimate reasons…crazy..

My thoughts on the manga

Personally, this wasn’t my favourite manga. I don’t really like it when relationships just kind of happen all of a sudden – I need character development! I want to see how and why characters change their minds, and grow to like each other!

I also wasn’t a big fan of how pushy Sakura is. I understand that he’s a high school student going through some big feelings, however I felt like he chose to ignore Sawa’s feelings in favour of his own.

It’s not my least favourite by any means, and I am planning on continuing the story – albeit very slowly – however, I am not planning on adding the physicals to my collection.
