Spoiler warning for volume 5!~
Haven’t read volume 4 yet? Take a look at my review recap here!
Let’s take a look at what happens in volume 5 of Colette Decides to Die!
What happens in volume 5?
Volume 5 starts off with a rather surprising sight to Colette – a man trips and falls into a well. Terrified at the connotations, Colette jumps in after him to make sure that Hade’s and the underworld will be okay.
The god of wine
It turns out that this man wasn’t just any man, it was Dio, the god of wine. As he is half human, he loves spending his time roaming around the earth with the humans. This unfortunately caused him to catch the cold that was sweeping through Colette’s village though, and he has now found himself sick and in the underworld.
Dio is a rather childish god, wanting Colette to stay and keep him company while he was bedridden, but Colette refused. As he doesn’t age, Dio can only spend so long in a certain village before he has to move onto the next one. (staying too long would leave people questioning why he doesn’t age.) Because of this, while he does get to develop relationships with many different humans, it also means that he will one day never again be able to meet with those he developed a relationship with. This leaves him obviously depressed, and so he clings onto Colette.
Colette’s very first patient
Back in Colette’s village, there is a cold making its way through the villagers. Thankfully Colette’s eldest brother is in town, which makes treating everyone a little bit easier.
One of the patients though, absolutely refuses treatment. So much so, that even when she collapses and is brought to Colette, she refuses to be seen.
We then are shown her history with Colette: this woman is the reason than Colette originally moved to this town. Years ago, while Colette was on a trip back to her hometown, this woman stumbled upon Colette. Seeing that she was a doctor, she insisted that Colette check on her sick husband. Even after learning that Colette was in the middle of a trip, she insisted that Colette come back the next day, and the next day, and the next…
Eventually, after seeing the sheer amount of people in need of a doctor, Colette decided to stay. While the woman’s husband ultimately passed away, Colette did help a great deal of villagers.
Now in the present, this very woman is very ill. While Colette thinks that she is refusing treatment because of her inability to save her husband, the woman reveals that she feels very guilty for forcing her to move to the village. The two eventually talk things through, and the woman makes a full recovery.
A grand party in the heavens
Now that Dio has finally made a full recovery in the underworld, he decides to throw a small party in honour of Colette. While Hades and Colette both decline at first, they eventually agree to go.
Hari, the official seamstress of the underworld, takes it upon themselves to create matching outfits for Hades and Colette. After getting properly dressed, they make their way to the heavens.
Upon arrival, they are met with an extravagant party. It turns out that Hade’s arrival was leaked to the goddesses, and everyone flocked to the party to see him. It’s at this party that we first get to see Hades and Colette acting coupley! Perhaps because he drank too much alcohol, Hades becomes rather protective over Colette, and sends all of the surrounding goddesses away so that the two of them can be alone.
Spoiler!!
At the very end of this volume, though she’s asleep, Hades confesses to Colette that he likes her!
…and that’s where the volume ends!
didn’t I say a lot happens!!
Maddie’s Ratings
Fluffiness
Oh my goodness the fluffiness that happens in the last chapter alone has this at a 10/10 for me.
Romance
I can’t give the romance a 10/10 because they spent most of the volume apart, but what romance there was, was absolutely perfect.
Story-telling
Like always, this manga-ka knows how to tell a good story. The steady stream of new characters always leaves me interested, without feeling overwhelmed at all.
