If you like…
Corpse Party (the game), urban legends, supernatural stories, time loops,,, then you might like Karada Sagashi!
If horror manga isn’t your cup of tea, perhaps you would prefer “Love, That’s an Understatement”. I wrote a review of the first volume here!
Synopsis
In this post, I will only be talking about the first volume of the series.
Karada Sagashi follows 6 characters who are forced to partake in a search for the 8 pieces of their friends body. During the search, a monster called “the red person” follows and hunts them, determind to find them before they can collect all of the pieces.
When the students fail to find all of the pieces, or are killed, the day resets, and they are forced to start over. This time loop is set to continue until they carry out their task, and volume one follows the first two days of the loop.
“The Rules”
At the begenning of the manga, there is a list of “rules” following an urban legend famous at the school. These rules are about a supernatural existance the resides at the school, called “the red person”, who forces students to partake in a “body search”.
- The red person appears in the school building after classes end
- The red person appears in front of students who are alone
- Students who have seen the red person cannot turn around until passing through the school gates
- Those that do turn around will have their bodies split into 8 pieces and hidden around the school
- Those killed by the red person will appear in front of everyone the next day, telling them to search for their body
- You cannot decline participating in a body search
- The red person will appear during a body search
- The body search will continue until the body is found
- Even if you die during a body search, you wont die
These are not the only rules, as more are introduced as the story goes on, but these are what is introduced at the start.
Characters
Haruka
Haruka is the character who’s body was split into 8 pieces, and forced her friends into the body search game. Although she is meant to be dead, she is somehow still at school, keeping an eye on the main characters.

As you would expect from a horror manga, she is a rather creepy character. Not much is explained about her in the first chapter, leaving more questions than answers (as would be expected in just the first volume). She is able to appear in multiple places at once, spin her head around 180 degrees, among other things.
Asuka
While Asuka is the character followed throughout the majority of part one, the focus is rather evenly split throughout the 6 main characters most of the time!
Whenever the group splits up, the story tends to follow Asuka. This doesn’t mean that the rest of the characters become secondary however, as they are always kept relevent.

When the characters fail to find the body, the day resets with them waking up in their beds.
While even if they die in the game they don’t die in real life, any injuries they recieve in the game are carried over into the reset.

My Thoughts and Comments
What I like about the story
- The is a school map at the beginning of the manga, for reference
- While there is some gore, there is no nudity
- There’s equal focus on all 6 characters
- All of the mystery!
What I don’t love about the story
- I don’t love the art at certain times
Questions I had after finishing volume 1
- What is Haruka now?
- What is the red person?
- What happened to Asuka’s phone?
I really enjoyed this manga, and am going to continue reading it! Though I haven’t seen the movie yet, I am planning on watching it after I read all of the manga!
